PP-DB proposes to remove monuments that symbolize the communist regime in our country - 1

PP-DB stated that they are submitting a bill that provides for the removal of monuments that symbolize the communist regime in Bulgaria, Dariknews.bg reports.

"On the eve of February 1 - a day to honor the victims of the communist regime in Bulgaria, and as a result of the statement by Minister Gutsanov, who said at a forum with Putin's spokesman that his cause is to defend Alyosha in Plovdiv, we are today submitting a bill that provides for the removal of monuments that symbolize the communist regime in Bulgaria," the deputies from PP-DB indicated.

In their words, they are doing this in order to enable the GERB mayors to remove the monuments that they "defended for so many years".

The dismantling of the Monument to the Soviet Army in Sofia, which caused tension, heated debates, disputes and protests, began on December 12, 2023. Then, the Soviet machine gun held by a Soviet soldier was first cut off from the top of the monument. In the following days, the figures of the soldier himself and a mother with a child were removed. This caused sharp reactions from representatives of several parties in parliament and in the Sofia Municipal Council (SOS). On December 19, 2023, the last part of the tallest figure of the monument was also removed. On the same day, however, the Sofia City Administrative Court stopped its dismantling at the request of “Vazrazhdane“ and “Stand Up.bg“. The dismantled figures from the Soviet monument were moved to the village of Dolni Lozen. The idea was to move them to the Museum of Socialist Art in Sofia.
