Rumen Gechev announced that he is terminating his membership in BSP. As a reason, he cited the decision not to support the constitutional right of the people to a referendum on Bulgaria's membership in the eurozone.
„I inform you that I am terminating my membership in BSP. The cup of patience has run out with the astonishing decision not to support the constitutional right of the people to a referendum on Bulgaria's membership in the eurozone. It is associated with serious risks for the Bulgarian economy, which is the least developed in the EU. Risks that more developed countries than us such as Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Romania categorically do not accept“, he wrote on his Facebook profile.
“The refusal of the Referendum is defended by decisions of the BSP executive bureau and the Coalition Council of “BSP-United Left“. The decisions of the party's governing bodies may be legitimate, but they drastically differ from my professional and political understandings and principles“, Gechev also points out.
