Assen Vassilev: Even with euros in our pockets, we have neither healthcare nor a functioning justice system - 1

We have always wanted Bulgaria to enter the eurozone. Even as acting Minister of Finance, I released a plan for adopting the euro for public discussion, because that is what we found from the "Borisov" cabinet. 3. Then, at a heart-pounding meeting of the "Petkov" cabinet, we adopted this plan with 10 votes "for" and 9 "against". Then the BSP and the ITN were against it and this plan passed with our votes and those of "Democratic Bulgaria", with only one minister from the ITN voting "for".

This was stated in the program "More from the Day" the former Finance Minister and current MP from "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" Assen Vassilev, who commented on the hot topics about the eurozone and the demands of the PP for a vote of no confidence in the "Zhelyazkov" cabinet.

"There was a convergence report last year and it was positive. This report is regular. It said that we should wait for inflation to fall. The "Denkov" cabinet started a media campaign about the euro. Explanatory clips started. Then the service cabinets interrupted everything. If we had been in power since April, I would have been able to answer why there is no explanatory campaign", he added.

"The simplest argument for our demand for a vote of no confidence is that even with the euro in our pocket we neither have healthcare, nor does the justice system work, nor does the Ministry of Interior. All problems are being swept under the table and this started with the adoption of the budget. Money was found to increase the salaries of police officers, but there is none for doctors and nurses. This government is harmful to Bulgaria and with it we cannot live like normal Europeans with European incomes. The process of adopting the euro is irreversible. From today until January, if there is no government and parliament - the euro will be adopted. We need a normal government that will raise incomes after we adopt the euro. We saw that the pro-Russian forces in parliament cannot do anything. They threatened that we will not enter Schengen either. Their current threats are the same. Our colleagues from the DB agree with our arguments. The most important argument for the vote of no confidence is - do we agree to tolerate this government that is harmful to Bulgaria? I hope that with this vote we will change something in the cabinet's policy. If we achieve this, it will be a success. I will give examples. If we had not raised the alarm, pensions would have increased by only 5%. If it were not for us, there would be no free medicines for children up to 7 years old", announced Asen Vassilev.

"The process for preliminary elections for a presidential candidate must be thought out very well. If only narrow party cores vote, a narrow party candidate will be nominated, who will not be able to reach the runoff. If a wider vote is held, there is a greater chance. Everything must be thought out extremely well and precisely", commented Vassilev on the topic of nominating a single presidential candidate from the right-wing forces.
