The court in Pleven will consider today the request of the driver, accused of Siyana's death, for a lighter measure of diversion. At the same time, a protest is currently being organized there. One of the organizers is the father of the deceased child - Nikolay Popov.
„The driver wants to be released because he does not feel well in custody. At first he thought of committing suicide. So far we have not seen a murderer who has committed suicide“, Popov said on bTV.
„This is a common practice - after he is released from custody, the case begins to drag on. Expert opinions, objections, insane findings and requests are being made in order to delay the case and continue to remain at large“, he said.
„The case is significant because the prosecutor's office took a completely different course and is working with exceptional speed. The court is obliged to continue this pace to show society that the state stands behind citizens and protects them. If the court does not do this, it means that it is on the side of those who kill us“, Nikolay Popov pointed out.
„I expect the driver's sentence to be confirmed today, since he is a potential murderer and can drive his truck again, since his driving license has not been revoked“, said Siyana's father.
„Do you think that a person who has two convictions for traffic offenses can learn any lessons? For me, his place is in custody until the case is concluded“, he added.
“My child agonized for 50 minutes with a broken skull and this man didn't even get out to see what was happening. He smoked a cigarette and stood in the cabin. This is cynicism and a lack of any human dignity“, said Nikolay Popov.
“For me, a quick sentence for this driver would give a sign that the state has the will and desire to deal with this type of crime“, believes Siyana's father.
