Yordan Ivanov on the horror homes: We have signaled - what surprised the authorities? - 1

I want to express my deep indignation at everything that is happening after the revelations made, as well as my deep indignation at the surprise of the authorities. From "Democratic Bulgaria" we have signaled about this topic back in 2024, but after Stella Nikolova's signal, no action followed. This was said in the program "Face to Face" on BTV by the deputy chairman of DSB and MP from "Continuing Change-Democratic Bulgaria" Yordan Ivanov about the revealed illegal homes for the elderly.

There are no innocents in this case, but there is no room for surprise either, because we have been signaling about this problem for a long time. How did the relatives of these people discover these homes on the Internet, and the authorities could not find them? What surprised the authorities? There is a report by the Committee Against Torture of People from 2021. This problem is systemic, we have a series of publicly known cases from 2019 to the present. This illegal practice must be stopped, but even without legislative changes, the institutions have the power to deal with this problem, including the prosecutor's office. It is a matter of will, Ivanov said.

He also commented on the initiative to hold a round table to nominate a unified candidacy of the democratic community in the presidential elections next year.

Our assessment is that the next regular elections are the presidential ones and there we see a real chance to change the status quo. We believe that non-partisan people, public figures, should be given a chance to speak and to nominate a powerful civil candidacy that would change the situation in the country. In addition to "We Continue the Change", in nominating such a candidate, we count on the participation of parties that have a clear assessment against the status quo, a clear assessment against corruption and a clear assessment of the war in Ukraine, the deputy chairman of DSB pointed out.

In his words, the contradictions in "We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria" are due to the fact that there are differently-minded units in the coalition.

A vote of no confidence is the most powerful tool of the opposition and for us, requesting a vote of no confidence immediately after the vote in the European Parliament on Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone would be a devaluation of this tool, Yordan Ivanov pointed out.

The issue will be resolved within our parliamentary group. Our assessment is that this vote can be held in September at the earliest. Today, when we are on the verge of flying to the club of the rich, we cannot afford any flirting with the pro-Russian forces that want to stop this flight, Ivanov emphasized.
