36-year-old Yavor Georgiev from Varna did not die from suffocation caused by compression of the neck, chest or abdomen, according to the forensic medical examination, the city's Appellate Prosecutor's Office reports.

He died on June 7, and his relatives and friends raised a series of questions related to his death and the police violence.

According to the forensic medical examination, the immediate cause of the man's death is acute cardiovascular and respiratory failure, caused by brain edema, bTV reports.

Injuries were found on the body, but they are superficial and small in size and would not have led to brain edema.

The committed Preliminary rapid tests of the man's blood and urine tested positive for cocaine and tetrahydrocannabinol, which is found in marijuana.

In order to definitively confirm whether the brain swelling was due to intoxication, a chemical analysis was ordered. In order not to cast doubt on the results, the samples for chemical-toxicological expertise were sent to the Military Medical Academy in Sofia.

What do Yavor Georgiev's relatives say?

A police chief has been removed from his post, and the two officers who arrested Georgiev have been suspended pending the completion of the disciplinary investigation. The young man died in the psychiatric hospital shortly after he was taken there after his arrest.

His relatives doubted the actions of the Ministry of Interior and organized protests. Last night they released a video of his detention in the area of a gas station.

It shows the man talking to the police officers, after which they try to arrest him using force. A disciplinary investigation has been initiated. A violation of the team has been established.

"The patrol car that was on the scene had a body camera attached, which was not used", said Senior Commissioner Andrey Angelov, Director of the Varna Regional Department of Internal Affairs.

The director of the Second District, where the police officers are from, has been removed for lack of control. The investigation continues.

"I can categorically and unequivocally state and do so that if the officers are proven guilty, they will bear their responsibility - both disciplinary and criminal", Angelov said.

Yavor Georgiev's relatives described the actions of the police officers as unfounded.
