Tonight, from 8 p.m., traffic on the Danube Bridge between Ruse and Giurgiu will be completely stopped due to emergency repairs, BNR reported. The activities will continue until 4 a.m. tomorrow.
Repair of an expansion joint on the bridge structure will completely stop traffic on the bridge for 8 hours.
This is an emergency situation and has nothing to do with the major repairs of the structure in the Bulgarian section. It began on July 10 last year and is scheduled to end in July next year.
According to the administration of the regional governor, the closure tonight is in line with the increased summer traffic during the day.
A total of 10 teams from the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior and the Regional Directorate of the "Border Police" are expected to to regulate traffic so that key roads in the Ruse region are not blocked.
Trucks over 3.5 tons will be stopped from 7:00 p.m. in the area between Byala station and the city of Byala, and a regime will be introduced for their gradual passage to Ruse.
If necessary, heavy goods traffic will also be stopped in neighboring areas.
Immediately after the resumption of traffic, all ten counters will be opened, where drivers of cars and trucks can pay the due toll for passing through the facility.
