Krasimir Zanev: The force that the police use must be measured - 1

A series of dismissals in the Ministry of Internal Affairs after the death of Yavor Georgiev from Varna.

"Yavor Georgiev calls on the phone from a gas station in an inadequate state and says that his mother is missing and is looking for help. They find him stripped to the waist. He says inadequate things. They ask him to get into the police car so they can take him to a medical facility. He starts to behave aggressively, does not obey the police order. They are forced to handcuff him and take him away. The force that police officers must use must be measured in order to protect the health of the person, "commented criminal psychologist and security expert Krasimir Zanev on the show "The Day ON AIR".

According to him, it may not have been necessary to use such great force in this particular case, "but that's how they judged it and that's how they did it".

"Because of their actions, the police officers and the head of the Second Regional Department have been removed from office. As of today, the regional director of the police in Varna has also been removed from office", Zanev told Bulgaria ON AIR.

According to him, the first forensic medical examination was signed by three doctors and the diagnosis of heart and respiratory failure was categorically recorded, and this is what caused the death.

"A second examination has been ordered to be done to be definitive. Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated in the case, which will be decided. They will bear responsibility. The materials from this inspection will be sent to the prosecutor's office and it will decide whether to initiate a case for exceeding police powers," the security expert explained.

He added that the Military Medical Academy has issued a toxicological examination, which categorically states that Yavor used a large amount of cocaine and alcohol, "which in themselves are incompatible and perhaps they led to his condition."

"There is a lack of discipline, control, self-control and training of the staff in the regional police departments," Zanev believes. According to him, Daniel Mitov has been the Minister of Internal Affairs for several months and there is no reason to ask him to resign, since these are problems that have been building up for years.

"15,000 body cameras have been ordered. There is an order from the minister to use them. In addition to the order, they should be required by written document to wear them during work. They are necessary to be able to monitor movement, behavior, actions," Zanev said.
