Denitsa Sacheva on illegal homes: There is no one who has slept through the situation, we have an aging population - 1

The escalation of tension between Iran and Israel cannot leave us alone. This cannot be viewed only as a regional conflict, it has the potential to carry global risks. Bulgaria, as a democratic and European country, has the responsibility to call for a reduction in tension, for the restoration of diplomatic channels for the protection of the civilian population. This was stated by the MP from GERB-SDF Denitsa Sacheva in the program “Panorama“ on BNT, quoted by novini.bg.

In any case, what is happening is extremely important because Bulgaria is Europe's gateway to the Middle East. Let us remember that Iran's last strike against Israel took place in Burgas. We must pay extremely serious attention to what is happening, she pointed out.

My appeal is not to call these places for illegal care homes, because they are not homes for social services. This is how we inflict great trauma on the system and the people who conscientiously do their job, Sacheva pointed out.

Over 30 signals have been submitted so far by the Agency for the Quality of Social Services to the Prosecutor's Office about such places of accommodation. We must realize that the population in Bulgaria is aging and has an increasing need for social services. Almost 5,000 people are currently on the waiting list. And as long as there is this niche between the state being able to provide these services legally and with high quality, there will obviously be criminals who will enter this niche, the former social minister explained.
There is no one who has slept through the situation, we have an aging population, people who are increasingly sick, there are many people who suffer from dementia, people with mental problems and this great demand can very difficultly meet the supply. When I was the social minister, we made the Social Services Act, that is, the regulation so that there will be no more such illegal provision of social services,
Sacheva noted.

The operational program, which is implemented by the social ministry and in the PVU, has 754 million leva, which are for the construction of new homes for the elderly, including the renovation of old ones, there are numerous measures related to the provision of social services, Denitsa Sacheva emphasized.

We have problems that we need to focus on because they need long-term solutions. The most important problem is people. There are no nurses, there are not enough social workers, there are no rehabilitators. This is the strategy for the professions that are related to people that Bulgaria needs. Here, both the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Affairs must work in a coordinated manner so that this problem can find its adequate solution. The shortage of these professions in the next 5 years will be very large, she added.
