A man from Silistra claims that he was a victim of police violence, which resulted in his jaw being broken and multiple injuries. According to Toni Georgiev, on May 30, he was attacked by plainclothes police officers while he was running in the area of “Medjidi tabiya”. He claims that they shot him with a Taser and beat him without any explanation.

“While I was running, a civilian car with Razgrad registration and tinted windows stopped in front of me. Two people in civilian clothes jumped out of it, one of them wearing a mask. I got scared and asked who they were, at that moment I was shot in the right leg with a stun gun”, victim Toni Georgiev tells Nova TV.

He explains that after he fell to the ground, he was handcuffed, and the beating continued with kicks to the head and body. He started shouting for help, thinking that he was being kidnapped, since the attackers did not identify themselves.

His friend Alexander Boychev, who was running nearby, heard the screams. “I heard someone shouting: “Help, they are kidnapping me!”. When I went, I saw Toni in the back seat with handcuffs, and one of the policemen was beating him in the head”, the witness says.

According to Toni, the beating continued in the car, where his jaw was broken. He was then taken to his home in the village of Kalipetrovo, where searches were carried out for narcotics. None were found.

“I learned from the investigating police officer that they were looking for drugs. I don't deal with such things and there's no way they could find any”, Georgiev is categorical. He adds that on the same day there was also an operation at a quick loan office in Silistra, and he is friends with the owners.

An investigation has already been opened into the case. The Appellate Prosecutor's Office in Varna announced that an internal investigation has been commissioned to establish the facts and circumstances. The period is 14 days and expired on Friday. Toni Georgiev and his relatives have filed complaints with all responsible institutions and are demanding justice.
