Kiril Petkov has filed a request to excuse his absences from the sessions of the National Assembly on June 26 and June 27. He cites “urgent commitments“ as a reason.
The document was approved by the Deputy Chairperson of the parliamentary group of “We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria“ Lena Borislavova on June 25 and was sent to the Chairperson of the National Assembly Natalia Kiselova, BTV reported.
On Wednesday, June 25, Kiril Petkov announced that he was resigning as co-chair of “We Continue the Change“ and as a member of parliament. His decision came after the corruption scandal in the Sofia Municipality. Deputy Mayor Nikola Barbutov and businessman Petar Rafailov remained in custody. They are accused of participating in an organized crime group and offering a bribe. It became clear in the courtroom that the recording, which was sent anonymously to the media, was not sent to the state prosecution.
According to Barbutov's defense, there is “not a single witness who said that Barbutov promised mayors a bribe“.
