President Rumen Radev called on those investigating the gas transmission contract with the Turkish company "Botas" to also investigate for lost profits from the incomplete use of the contract. The Chairperson of the Energy Committee in Parliament, Pavela Mitova, countered that even in the official offices this contract was not used to its full capacity.
In the program "The Day Live" on NOVA NEWS, she noted that with the scheduled capacities, the Turkish company, if it decides, can absorb the entire market of "Bulgargaz". According to her, the contract with "Botas" is a surrender of Bulgarian energy sovereignty. Mitova added that the Council of Ministers is trying “to make up for the lost benefits”, but her opinion is that there are no real benefits.
Plamena Mitova summarized the elements of the PPA in its “Energy” part, which have been renegotiated with the European Commission:
⇒ They have stopped the removal of “Bulgartransgaz” and the Electricity System Operator from the Bulgarian Energy Holding, due to the risk of financial collapse;
⇒ Liberalization of the household consumer market: An additional market segment has been introduced, which is subject to compensation from the “Electricity System Security” fund. According to Mitova, with liberalization the price would have jumped by 70%;
⇒ They have kept the Maritsa - East TPPs because, as Pavela Mitova said, Bulgaria is a pioneer in carbon emissions throughout the EU. We have reduced them by 60%, with a requirement of 55 percent.
Plamena Mitova believes that votes of no confidence are supported for political reasons, and the formations do not provide an alternative to the government. She emphasized that the overthrow of the cabinet cannot be an end in itself, and this tool must be used meaningfully.
