A serious traffic accident involving a police car occurred yesterday evening at around 9:40 p.m. at the "Sevastopol" bus stop in Varna, in the direction of the city center. A 19-year-old young man was transported to hospital with fractures after the unexpected chain of events, the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
The incident began as a typical chain accident, when a 19-year-old driver of an "Opel Astra" hit a "Dacia Lodgy" car stopped in front of him, which in turn hit a "Tesla" parked in front of him. As a result of the initial impact, two passengers from the "Dacia" received neck injuries.
The dramatic turn of events occurred while the traffic police were documenting the initial accident. For unclear reasons, the police officer, driver of a service car, drove forward and hit the "Opel Astra" car parked in front of him, which hit the 19-year-old young man in front of his car.
"Assistance was provided, the young man was transported to hospital with fractures and left for treatment," the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.
The alcohol, narcotics and intoxicating substance tests of the driver of the police car turned out to be negative. The case was transferred to the District Investigation Department under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Varna.
The Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Varna stated that it is providing full cooperation and assistance to the health authorities and the family of the injured young man. An official investigation has been ordered into the case.
The incident raises questions about the safety of documenting road accidents and the need for additional measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
