Deputies adopted the amendments to the Euro Introduction Act on first reading - 1

With 166 votes "for" the deputies adopted today on first reading amendments to the Euro Introduction Act, Nova TV reports.
The law states that the font for the price in leva and euro must be the same so as not to mislead the consumer. And unjustified price increases can lead to fines of 200 thousand leva.

And more - the government will have additional powers to control prices. And the National Revenue Agency and the Consumer Protection Commission are given the right to request information about the factors leading to price increases.

All measures will be valid from August 8 of this year until December 31, 2026.
„Democratic Bulgaria” recalled that they themselves are proposing a project with right-wing measures to control prices and defined the prepared changes as left-wing populism, „which even Todor Zhivkov has not achieved”.

„I believe Zhelyazkov - as the best administrator in Bulgaria, that he has proposed a law that, within this period, would limit speculation, so that individual bodies would have the authority to stop violators. Both Radev and Yotova talk about how prices will skyrocket. All organizations and traders can sit down, see the pricing, see who forced the oil to be so expensive and if someone allowed this speculation, the CPC and other bodies should impose fines on them”, said GERB leader Boyko Borisov.

“Controlling prices goes through our right-wing measures that we have proposed. They include measures regarding product taxes, since currently the prices of equipment are increasing and the so-called turbo competition. Our proposal is that every morning, at 8 a.m., the prices in stores should be announced. We are even ready to implement this. Something that the government does not want. What GERB is proposing is turbo-left populism. He supports Peevski and the only thing they have in mind is state-owned stores”, said Ivaylo Mirchev, PP-DB.

“It is time for price control to turn from formal to real. We have said a lot that regulators, the NRA, and the CPC do not have the capacity to fight speculation. This bill also allows this, because it gives a real opportunity to go for inspections. I must say that this bill does not hinder the free market”, commented Atanas Atanasov from the BSP.
