BSP - Sofia: The Brothers' Mound has been desecrated again, but we will bring our fight against neo-Nazism to a successful end PHOTOS - 1

The Brothers' Mound monument in the capital's Borisova Garden has been desecrated again. The monument has been scrawled with swastikas, neo-Nazi symbols and racist appeals, demonstrating hate speech. Figures from the composition have been broken and torn off, as well as slabs from the pedestal.

This is reported in their position by the members of the Executive Bureau of the BSP - Sofia.

In it, they state that "this vandalism is the result of the 35-year-old cave anti-communism, in the name of which many practices and symbols of Nazism and fascism were rehabilitated and normalized". According to the governing body of the Sofia Organization of Socialists, during this period we witnessed a brutal crackdown on memory and history. "However, the vandalism against Bratskata Mogila is also a result of the 35-year neoliberal economic policy, which has led to severe fractures and inequalities in Bulgarian society and marginalized large social groups, the position of the BSP - Sofia also says. - If we add to this the transformation of culture and education into a commodity, we have a favorable environment for cultivating neo-Nazism".

The capital's socialists are categorical that these systemic factors for neo-Nazi outrages cannot be an excuse for the inaction of the authorities. "Therefore, we call on Vasil Terziev to carefully familiarize himself with the responsibilities he has as mayor of Sofia and to take swift and adequate action to clean the Brothers' Mound by September 1, 2025, to repair the obelisk, the figures and the pedestal, as well as the adjacent parts around them and to install lighting and video surveillance cameras that are connected to the police, so that the law enforcement agencies can quickly and adequately prevent any further attempt at vandalism and detain the offenders, the position of the BSP - Sofia also reads. - Today we insist that these mandatory minimum measures be taken in relation to this specific case. But the fight against neo-Nazism is a matter of long-term policy. We will do everything possible to make this battle successful".

REGARDING: Another act of vandalism against the Bratska Mogila monument in Borisova Garden.

The Bratska Mogila monument in the capital's Borisova Garden has been desecrated again. The monument is scrawled with swastikas, neo-Nazi symbols and racist appeals, demonstrating hate speech. Figures from the composition, as well as slabs from the pedestal, have been broken and torn off.

This vandalism is the result of 35 years of cave anti-communism, in the name of which many practices and symbols of Nazism and fascism were rehabilitated and normalized. During this period, we witnessed a brutal crackdown on memory and history. However, the vandalism against Bratska Mogila is also a result of 35 years of neoliberal economic policy, which has led to severe fractures and inequalities in Bulgarian society and marginalized large social groups. Add to this the commodification of culture and education, and we have a favorable environment for the cultivation of neo-Nazism.

These systemic factors for neo-Nazi outrages cannot be an excuse for the inaction of the authorities. Therefore, we call on Vasil Terziev to carefully familiarize himself with the responsibilities he has as mayor of Sofia, and to take prompt and adequate action to:

1. Cleaning the Bratska Mogila monument in Borisova Garden by September 1, 2025.

2. Repair of the obelisk, figures and pedestal, as well as the adjacent parts around them.

3. Installation of lighting and video surveillance cameras, which are connected to the police, so that law enforcement agencies can quickly and adequately prevent any further attempts at vandalism and apprehend the offenders.

Today we insist that these mandatory minimum measures be taken in relation to this specific case. But the fight against neo-Nazism is a matter of long-term policy. We will do everything possible to make this fight successful.
