Nine court cases prevent the implementation of the change of the most central for the fifth year in a row capital square – "Holy Sunday". To date, most disputes have been won, said Sofia's chief architect Zdravko Zdravkov. The rest are at the last judicial instance.
The project to change the square is the work of arch. Massimiliano Fuksas (Studio Fuksas). The Municipality of Sofia has already started the procedure for selecting a contractor for the repair works.
The actual work is expected to start in early 2025. The renovation works are divided into 9 stages. The goal is that residents of Sofia and guests of the capital should not experience difficulties when passing through the ideal center of the city.
The work will start from "Alabin" in the direction of "Sveta Nedelya" Square, as well as along "Saborna" St. - from the City Garden to the pedestrian zone on Vitosha Blvd.
