The land suitable for organic farming in Europe increased by 1 million hectares in 2022 compared to 2021, reaching 16.9 million the hectare. For comparison, in 2020 it was only 14.7 million hectares, according to Eurostat data.
Bulgaria is among the countries with the fastest growth rate of these areas. For the period 2012-2022 the increase is 182%. Before us are only Croatia with 306% and Portugal with 278%, according to Eurostat data.
Austria (27%), Estonia (23%) and Sweden (20%) registered the highest share of organic farming areas in the total used agricultural area.
