The investment of the new lithium plant is one of the largest for Argentina in recent years. It amounts to 800 million USD and is the work of the French company Eramet. The company will build its second plant in the country 70 km from the first.
On July 3, the first plant of the Eramine industrial complex, located at 3870 m above sea level, was opened. "In the first phase, the project will potentially produce 24,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate per year," the Foreign Office said. Eramet's partner in the project is the Chinese metallurgical company Tsingshan. The volume of their investments already amounts to more than 800 million USD.
