Dubai begins construction of first air taxi station - 1

Dubai authorities have announced the start of construction of the first air taxi station near the emirate's international airport . The station should start operating in the first quarter of 2026, reports Kazinform.

The start of construction was announced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the UAE, and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.

The first phase of the Dubai Air Taxi Station will include four drop-off locations, including Dubai International Airport, Downtown, Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah.

"The area of the facility will be 3100 sq.m. It will be able to serve 42,000 boardings and 170,000 passengers per year," Sheikh Hamdan wrote on the "X" social network.

At the initial stage, the stations will operate in the city center - Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah, and the launch of services is planned for 2026. Dubai continues to shape the future of global mobility through its ongoing commitment to innovation, safety and sustainability.

The new air taxi station will be built in collaboration with Skysports, a UK supplier and operator of eVTOL drones for cargo delivery, survey and surveillance.

Skyports Infrastructure, in partnership with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has started working with partner airline Joby Aviation. In February this year, the companies formalized their partnership by signing agreements.

Each station will be equipped with fast charging technology that will quickly recharge the battery between flights, supporting up to ten aircraft landings per hour. Vertiport is also designed to allow for flexible capacity expansion to meet future demand growth. The facility will be able to serve up to 170 thousand passengers per year.

Furthermore, the Dubai Air Taxi Station is expected to significantly ease congestion in the city. Experts predict this will reduce travel time from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah to 10-12 minutes, compared to 45 minutes during peak hours.

As previously reported, Dubai will launch its flying taxi service in late 2025, a year earlier than originally planned. The electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxis will be able to carry up to four passengers and a pilot, have a range of 160 km and a top speed of 320 km/h.
