Casino becomes cultural attraction - 1

The Constanta casino will become a fully cultural destination and will also have a café, but it will no longer host gambling activities, said the casino's marketing director Maria Besnia, Agerpres reported, quoted by BTA.

“The casino reopened a few days ago, on May 21, during the city's holiday celebrations and after a large-scale renovation process that lasted about five years and was financed by the National Investment Company with approximately 40 million euros. Anyone who steps foot inside the casino will discover its original architecture, preserved as completely as possible, and the attention paid to architectural details. Now the casino welcomes visitors in a comprehensive and comprehensive format”, explained Maria Besnia.

The areas open to the public in this emblematic building are organized on three levels. On the ground floor there is an exhibition that shows lighthouse installations and their symbolism, connecting them with the history of the city and the casino. Also on the ground floor there is another exhibition that tells the story of the casino, including some of the most picturesque episodes from its turbulent past with original plans and archival documents.

Access to the upper level is via the famous staircase, largely preserved in its original form. From the main hall, guests can enter a smaller room overlooking the sea, called the Hall of Mirrors, which houses an exhibition dedicated to Angel Salini.

“This exhibition discusses the role of Angel Salini in the development of Dobrudzha through the “Cherna voda” bridge and the region's connection with the rest of the country. It also presents his influence on the development of the port, which, thanks to his projects, turned Constanța into one of the most modern ports in Europe at the time”, says the marketing director.

Two immersive exhibitions are currently open in the basement of the building, “more attractive to younger visitors and children, but certainly fun for adults as well, which contain virtual (VR) and augmented reality (AR) experiences about the marine environment, the Black Sea, underwater life and fish”.

Ticket prices are as follows: full ticket (adults): 50 lei (10 euros); students, pupils, pensioners: 25 lei; children under 7 and disabled people (plus one companion): free; ground floor + basement only: 30 lei (adults), 15 lei (reduced categories); upper floor only: 20 lei (adults), 10 lei (discounted categories); guided tour of the entire building for groups of 25-30 people: 100 lei per person.

“Opened in 1910, the Constanta Casino was once a favorite haunt of European aristocracy, a pearl of Art Nouveau architecture built on the Black Sea promenade. It has survived wars, regimes and decline, but has always remained at the heart of the city as a symbol of elegance and durability. Today, fully restored, the casino reopens as a modern cultural center, where history lives in harmony with art, technology and the spirit of a new generation,“ writes the casino's official website.

The National Association of Travel Agencies and its partners are organizing a sightseeing trip along the Romanian coast from May 28 to June 1 before the official start of the summer season.
