The District Court in Ruse has eased the detention measures of three of the youths accused of the attack on the director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the city, Senior Commissioner Nikolay Kozhuharov, and his neighbor Georgi Dimitrov, BNR reported.
Four youths were charged for the scandal from early September, when the police chief, Senior Commissioner Nikolay Kozhuharov, was admitted to the University Hospital "Kanev" and underwent organ-preserving surgery. At its first hearing, the District Court in Ruse imposed a measure of "Detention in custody" on all of them, which was changed by the appellate judges in Veliko Tarnovo to "House arrest", and the minor defendant remained under "Supervision by an inspector from the Children's Pedagogical Room".
Weeks before the case began to be considered on the merits, today the District Court made a new change to the measures of detention for the three adult youths and they remained with the lightest - "Submission".
"We believe that the measures of procedural coercion were too severe. We are talking about young people who have not been convicted at the moment and each of them is studying, doing something useful. None of them has any antisocial behavior at the moment. "So I think that should have been taken into account by the prosecution," said one of the youths' lawyers, and the defense hopes that the charges will be mitigated.
The trial is expected to begin in mid-December.
