Five employees from the supervisory and security staff of the Varna detention center were detained, the Ministry of Justice announced.
They specified that today, according to an order of the Minister of Justice Georgi Georgiev, employees of the sectors “Internal Security“ and “Security and Security in Places of Deprivation of Liberty“ under the General Directorate “Execution of Sentences“ (GDIN), together with the District Prosecutor's Office and the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, carried out searches of all bedrooms, service and office premises on the territory of the detention center, as well as vehicles.
At 4:30 a.m., a training alert was declared in the detention center, which is located on the territory of the prison in Varna. The searches began with it, during which equipment without documents, tablets with undetermined content, needles and syringes were found. Five employees of the supervisory and security staff of the detention center - the city of Varna were detained during the operation. The checks continue.
The announcement states that surprise checks in places of deprivation of liberty have been carried out in the last few months by order of the Minister of Justice Georgi Georgiev. The goal is to detect illegally imported prohibited items in prisons and detention centers intended for prisoners.
