In Burgas, the case for the death of the two policemen has started in essence, run over by a bus with illegal migrants, BNT reported.
For the serious incident of the summer of 2022, the only defendant is the Syrian Omar Adnan. Along with him, some of the migrants on the bus, who turned out to be missing, were supposed to be in the courtroom.
None of the migrants on the bus appeared for questioning during the hearing. Some have left the Harmanli refugee camp and are missing, while others have not been found at their addresses.
„We will ask the authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the authorities of the State Security Service to make the necessary efforts, to ensure that these persons are secured, to be heard in a courtroom," said Dimitar Uzunov, prosecutor in the case.
The only witnesses who appeared were a father and son, owners of the car dealership where Omar Adnan's assistant bought the bus to transport the migrants for 6,000 euros.
"This is our business, we sell buses, then who will do what with them, we have no way of knowing", explained Pavel Popov.
"He takes it for cutting parts, that's what he told me, I don't know anymore. If I had doubted how I would give it. I sold the bus for what it is worth," said Ivan Popov, owner of a car dealership in Harmanli.
And the defense of Omar Adnan continues to claim that the collision was not intentional, as all the evidence of the investigators indicates.
"My client made a right-hand evasive maneuver, so I will plead reckless. He wanted to prevent the accident," said Kalin Yanev, the defendant's lawyer.
"It is evident from all the words that are given that he deliberately aims at them and kills them. I believe and hope that the truth will come out. And he will get what he deserves," added Aneta Ilieva, mother of the deceased Yordan Iliev.
"He commits gross violations of the rules of the ZDvP, exceeding the speed limit, without activating the braking system. He caused the traffic accident," said Dimitar Uzunov, the prosecutor in the case.
The case continues with several hearings in July, when another 109 witnesses will be questioned at the request of the defense. According to the policemen's relatives, this will only delay the process.
