The District Prosecutor's Office in Yambol is investigating the death of a young man who died in custody after being detained during a police operation. The investigation will show whether it was a murder or suicide, as was the initial version. Relatives are adamant that the man was beaten and died as a result of police violence, due to multiple injuries and burns.
District prosecutor Doychin Doychev stated that the pre-trial proceedings are under an article that deals with murder. “Whether it is a case of murder or suicide will be established during the investigation,” said Doichev.
According to initial information, there are cameras in the detention facility, recordings will be provided. The police officers will also be questioned.
The aunt of the deceased Ivan Dimitrov told bTV that on the fourth day after his death, the questions became more and more, it is not known where he was detained and what happened after that. He added that in photos immediately after his death, he is wearing clothes that are not his.
His mother says that before the arrest, he was taken to the Emergency Department of “St. Pantaleimon” hospital. in Yambol, as the doctor on duty said he was in good condition. His relatives want the cameras from the Emergency Department to be checked in the investigation.
They say he has burns on his groin.
