A large amount of euro banknotes wrapped like sandwiches were found by customs officers from the Ruse Customs Department during the inspection of a passenger car in the area of the Danube Bridge 2 Vidin-Calafat border checkpoint.
At around 11:00 a.m. on 12/12/2024, in the area of the Danube Bridge Vidin border checkpoint – Calafat, a passenger car entering the country, driven by a Polish citizen, was stopped.
During the inspection carried out by customs officers, packages containing euro banknotes were found under the carpet of the two front seats, in the cavity of the armrest of the rear seat and in a bag with food.
The money was wrapped like sandwiches in aluminum foil and black stretch, with a total amount of 238,200 euros.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case.
The driver of the vehicle has been brought in as a defendant for a crime under Art. 251, para. 1 of the Criminal Code - failure to fulfill the obligation to declare funds in particularly large amounts, transported across the country's border.
At the request of the supervising prosecutor against him, the District Court - Vidin took a preventive measure “detention in custody“.
