The trend is towards a decrease in crimes committed by minors and underage persons for this year compared to the same period last year, said on “This Morning“ the director of the SDVR, Chief Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov.
One of the latest cases is from Wednesday, when a young man was attacked by his peers at a public transport stop.
“On May 21 at around 2:30 p.m., we received a signal about a fight between minors and underage persons at the Orlov Most stop. Arriving at the scene, the patrols determined that there was no such clash. We did not identify any victims. A search was also conducted for five individuals with the description we received. We detained them at the district office and it turned out that they were the attackers of a boy who was standing at the bus stop and, according to him, did not provoke them in any way. Warning protocols have been drawn up and handed over to the parents“, said Nikolov.
“Since the beginning of the year, there have been 28 similar cases, and in recent days we have had three more. We have identified and detained 26 individuals who are perpetrators of such crimes. The success rate is quite high, we do not stop working on this topic and it is a priority“, explained the director of the SDVR.
“What we are doing is the last link in the chain. Before us, parents, teachers and the municipality must get involved so that we can prevent such actions. They ruin their future. When we register them in the Ministry of Interior system, it is already too late for them“, said Lyubomir Nikolov.
„I count on synergy with the Sofia Municipality to strengthen video surveillance. We are constantly making prescriptions for areas where these raids are frequent, with the aim of the Sofia Municipality installing video surveillance at specific metro stations and specific areas with a high concentration of such events. I believe that in a short time they will respond to our requests and we will equip the capital with high-quality video surveillance, which is a key factor in revealing crimes that we have not detected on the spot“, pointed out Nikolov.
„Unsupervised youth under 14 years of age until 8 p.m. and under 18 years of age after 10 p.m. are not allowed outside without adult companions“, recalled the head of the Inspector Stefan Popov, Head of the “Child Crime” Sector.
Minors also bear criminal and administrative liability, he specified.
In the program “This Morning”, world snowboard champion Tervel Zamfirov shared that his second bike was stolen in a month and linked these thefts to the activities of the bars.
According to the head of the SDVR, there are no organized groups for stealing bikes in Sofia, but as the summer season approaches, these vehicles become prey to thieves, who subsequently sell them. According to him, there is no connection between the bars and the thefts of bicycles.
