Attack and encroachment on the home and car of civil activist Daniela Toneva. This became clear last weekend from photos that she herself published, bTV specifies.
For years, the woman has been working for cleaner air in the Bobov Dol region, where there is a thermal power plant, which according to many pollutes the environment.
What exactly happened and what was the reason for the attack, we ask Daniela Toneva herself.
„A stone was thrown into one of the rooms of the house, the window was broken, everything was in glass. The car was covered in black white paint, practically the whole thing. I didn't hear when this happened, I guess in the wee hours of the night“, she says.
Although the damage from the stone thrown at her home is not small, she describes as lucky the fact that it was not thrown towards the bedroom where she was sleeping at that moment.
„Why am I afraid - because probably interests were being represented. Someone who didn't want to be public has become public," Toneva said.
On September 1, in an interview with Bulgarian National Radio, she spoke about a petition in which over 80 people signed a request for the “Bobov Dol“ TPP to stop work until it meets all the requirements for the eco-indicators for the safe operation of the power plant as per its comprehensive permit.
This is happening after the Chairman of the Municipal Council in Bobov Dol Krasimir Chavraganski stated in a recording of a meeting of the municipal councilors that the energy boss Hristo Kovachki calls him every week to “put the pot on him, and he lasts”.
“Kovachki is the so-called consultant to the TPP “Bobov Dol“. The municipal council should make decisions in the interest of the people, not an oligarch or a consultant“, Toneva told the media.
Today she is categorical – she does not know what could be the potential motive behind the attack on her home and car, but stressed that for nearly a year she has been actively fighting for cleaner air in Bobov Dol.
„I explained to the police that I have good relations with the neighbors, that this is a very small village, people here know each other. I listed the cases in which representatives of local authorities may feel humiliated by my video, by writing “For Razmetanitsa“, said Toneva.
The “Bobov Dol“ TPP also reacted to the case, condemning the attack.
“Yes, the “Bobov Dol“ TPP contacted us. They said that they did not agree with such acts of vandalism. I can only say that I do not agree with the pollution from the Bobov Dol TPP, commented Toneva.
The investigation into the case continues, and Toneva will be invited to speak in the National Assembly about her fight for clean nature.
