The Odeon of ancient Filipopol is the newest archaeological jewel of Plovdiv. Thus, in addition to the ancient theater, the city will have another open stage, of course much smaller, bequeathed from antiquity. The Odeon was discovered during excavations in 1988. on the northern side of the forum, specifies BNR.
The first restoration and conservation activities there were carried out in 2002-2004 with the financial assistance of the Leventis Foundation. The odeon was then used as a venue for events, but over time the wooden seats rotted and the site had to be reconstructed. The work lasted several years, and with the official opening the first concert took place.
„The Odeon will now function as a stage, but it was actually the seat of the city council, or boulevard. In antiquity, its capacity was about 350 people. Now there are about 200 places, because of the undiscovered part, says archaeologist Maya Martynova, who studied the odeon after its discovery.

Many valuable artefacts discovered in the process of archaeological research are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum.
Now the municipal department “Culture“ will see to it that the Odeon is lively, said Deputy Mayor for Culture and Tourism Plamen Panov.
