On Monday evening in the eastern German city of Dresden, lightning injured ten people, four of whom received serious injuries, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA .
According to a fire service spokesman, two men, aged 27 and 30, were successfully resuscitated after suffering a cardiac arrest. Amid severe weather conditions and a passing thunderstorm in Dresden, lightning struck the group on the banks of the Elbe River shortly after 5:00 p.m.
Three women and seven men aged between 26 and 41 were injured. Four of them are life-threatening.
All patients reportedly received initial emergency medical treatment and were transferred to neighboring hospitals.
Police cordoned off the area and sent a helicopter to find other injured. Emergency services have urged people in the area to seek immediate medical attention if they show symptoms.
On Monday evening, the fire service issued an appeal to anyone else who may have been injured, as it cannot rule out that other people may have been hit and subsequently escaped. "If you experience symptoms such as a fast heart rate, irregular heartbeat or numbness in the limbs, please see a doctor immediately!“
The German weather service in Leipzig warned of a severe thunderstorm in parts of Saxony. They have issued a level two out of four thunderstorm warning for Dresden.
