In the USA, a donkey that escaped from its owners was found in a herd deer, Inside Edition.
California's Terry Drewry lost his donkey Diesel five years ago: in 2019, the pet escaped during a hike after being spooked by a cougar. The donkey was spotted on a camera trap several months after its escape, but further attempts to locate the animal were unsuccessful. After a while, the farmer got other donkeys, but he kept thinking about Diesel.
In 2024, Diesel is accidentally found by hunter Max Finnell. He was watching a herd of wapiti deer when he saw a donkey among them. Finnel even understood that the donkey was not just part of the herd, but its leader. “The donkey seemed to be their leader because when Diesel moved, the deer next to him moved, too, Finnell said. He also mentioned that a local ranger had found the remains of a cougar in the area, which had most likely been kicked.
„They suspected that Diesel might have killed the cougar,” Finnell said.
After Finnell shared this incident on social media, Drury found out about it. He is happy that Diesel is alive and has found friends. According to him, he would be happy if the donkey returned to the farm, but Diesel had still “earned his freedom”.
