In the United Kingdom, a man decided to start a new life with his mistress, hired an assassin to eliminate his wife , but was caught 40 years later, LBC reported.

Alan Morgan was married to Carol, who had two children, when he met the married Margaret. The two started a secret relationship. A year and two months later, in August 1981, Carol was attacked by a man in her own store. According to the Daily Mail, he killed her, stole cigarettes and took £400 from the till. Carol was identified as the victim of a brutal robbery, but the perpetrator was never found.

At the same time, widower Alan received insurance payments and paid off the loan. He also inherited Carol's share of the store and found a new wife within a year - Margaret, who left her husband and is still with Alan.

In 2018, the local police department decided to reopen the investigation into Carol's case. Detectives recovered old evidence and interviewed witnesses again. Among them is Jane Bunting, who gave key evidence for the prosecution. In the 1980s, she was a teenager in a relationship with a criminal. She told police that one day at a bar, Allen asked her friend where he could find a killer.

Further evidence of Alan's guilt was that on the night of Carol's murder, he went to the cinema with her children, although he had never done this before: they had little contact and were not close. The police came to the conclusion that he wanted to provide himself with an alibi. They also suggest that the large sum that Allen withdrew from his bank account some time after the crime was used to pay for the killer's services.

As a result of the investigation, 73-year-old Alan and 75-year-old Margaret appear in court. The man was found guilty of ordering Carol's murder. Margaret is acquitted. The detective leading the investigation said during the trial: “Bringing this case to justice was the right decision. No one capable of such a brutal crime should be allowed to live freely in our society.
