Scientists announced on July 6, 1997 that they had identified the remains of Argentine-Cuban guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara (1928 -1967), recalls BTA.
They were found days earlier. After official confirmation of the identification of the remains, they were repatriated to Cuba.
The search for Che Guevara's remains has been going on for two years in Bolivia – since 1995 called "Operation Che" and it's done by experts – anthropologists and medical examiners from Cuba and Argentina. They were found in a mass grave near the old airport of Vallegrande, in southeastern Bolivia, near where Che was captured and executed on October 9, 1967.
