The twenty-seven-year-old son of the 50-year-old wife of the Norwegian crown prince Mette-Marit - Marius Borg Hoiby, admitted that he abused his girlfriend and damaged things in her apartment, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.
Hoiby says this in a statement his lawyer sent to public television, the television channel reported today. According to the statement, he was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine.
Hoibi is Mette-Marit's son from a previous relationship. He was arrested on August 4 in Oslo on charges of assault and damage to property and released the next day. The police are continuing the investigation.
In the text of the statement, Hoiby wrote that he suffers from mental health issues, as well as drug abuse, for which he wants to seek treatment.
It also states: “My drug abuse and diagnoses cannot justify what happened”. According to him, he wants to take responsibility and tell the police the truth.
The most important thing for him, however, is to apologize to his girlfriend, Hoiby's statement said. He also apologizes to his family, the statement said. “I know that my behavior has had a significant impact on them,”, he also says.
Hoiby's mother Mette-Marit traveled to the Paris Olympics later than planned last week because of the accident.
During a press conference in Paris, 51-year-old Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon told Te Fau 2 television: “In our family, as in all other families, sometimes it is important to be on the spot. This time I was the one traveling“.
The investigation into his stepson is a “serious matter”, he said last week, but declined to comment further on the case.
