August 19 marks 184 years since photography was recognized from the French Academy of Sciences and Fine Arts.

On August 19, 1839, the official presentation of the photographic process was made by Louis Daguerre to the French Academy of Sciences and Fine Arts. The French government bought the patent and immediately made it public.

Photography entered the consumer market widely in 1901 with the introduction of famous camera models, and in 1925 the first "Laika" camera appeared. with 35mm black and white film.

Photography is the process of creating images of real objects using light. The term is derived from the Greek words phos (light) and grapho ("write").

Attempts to "photograph" date back to the time of Leonardo da Vinci, but the first successful photographic image dates back to 1826 and was the work of the French inventor Joseph Nicephore Niepce.

He exposed for 8 hours in strong sunlight, and used a polished tin-lead plate as a photographic plate.

In Bulgaria, art photography was recognized as an art in 1957. In 1959, regular and correspondence courses in photography were opened at the then Technical College of Graphics (National Vocational School of Printing and Photography).

The first preserved photo of Bulgarians is from 1842-1843. In the portrait, the revivalist Todor Minkov and his mother were photographed in Vienna. The photography was probably taken by the Bulgarian Anastas Jovanovich, experts believe.

The pioneer photographers who started and popularized the art of photography in Bulgaria are Anastas Jovanovich, Atanas Stoyanov, Toma Hitrov, Georgi Danchov and Georgi St. Georgiev.

Since 1993, photography began to be studied as a separate specialty in the department "Film and television broadcasting and photography". of the National Academy of Theater and Film Art (NATFIZ).
