Oliver Beckmann, a 24-year-old man from Germany, has created an unexpected but powerful volunteer initiative that is growing with each passing weekend. Every Friday and Saturday night, he drives a taxi, but not for money, but for free – and only for women who need safe and secure transportation to get home, reports Nova.
Oliver has a fiancée and two young children, and although he is sure that there are more fun ways to spend his evenings, he does not stop devoting himself to his cause. The reason is personal – After his best friend was sexually harassed in a taxi, he decided to create a project to ensure the safety of women.
“I dream of the day when I can be sure that my little daughter will be able to feel calm and protected, no matter where she is“, says Oliver. Since the fall of last year, he has been driving a free taxi for women from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., initiating this mission out of personal experience and sincere concern.
“The idea came after an incident with my best friend. She was sexually harassed in a regular taxi. There is a court case now, but I don't want to go into details. It was a turning point for me and I decided to do something about it“, he adds.
On weekends, Oliver drives and safely takes women to their homes. His family's support is unconditional, and the initiative is gaining popularity. More and more people are joining the cause, contacting Oliver to become part of his volunteer team and offer free transportation to women in need of safety.
