Harvey Weinstein found guilty of sexual assault VIDEO - 1

Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of sexual assault against Miriam Haley and not guilty of sexual assault against Kaya Sokola after a retrial in which three women detailed how he abused them, dariknews.bg reported.

Weinstein was retried for crimes against two women, Jessica Mann, who he is accused of raping, and Miriam Haley, who he is accused of sexually assaulting, as well as new charges of assault against former model Kaya Sokola.

He was found not guilty of these new charges during a tense court hearing in Manhattan, AFP reported.

In announcing the verdict of the seven women and five men on the jury in the Haley case, the jury foreman said: “Guilty“.

He shook his head when asked about the verdict on Mann's rape charge, and said “not guilty” on Sokola's indictment.

Weinstein watched indifferently from a distance, sitting in a wheelchair and wearing a dark suit, as he had throughout the six weeks of court hearings.

But later, the 73-year-old appeared to mutter "That's not true" as he was led out of court.

The judge ordered legal teams on both sides not to speak to the media while the jury continued to deliberate on the remaining charges.

The Oscar winner's conviction is retribution for Haley, whose appeal contributed to the original conviction in 2020. and helped launch the “MeToo“ movement, which led to a series of accusations from prominent women who were abused by men.

Weinstein suffered a spectacular fall from grace in 2017 when the first allegations against him came to light and sparked a public outcry.

The movement rocked the film industry, exposing the systematic exploitation of young women seeking work in the entertainment industry and provoking a reflection on how to end the toxic culture.

More than 80 women have accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct in the wake of a global backlash against men abusing their power.

Weinstein's initial 2020 conviction and the resulting 23-year prison sentence were overturned last year after an appeals court found irregularities in the way witnesses were presented.
