The engine of a Sun Country Airlines plane caught fire during a flight to the United States, CNN reported.
The incident occurred on Monday, July 14, with a Boeing 737 flying from Los Angeles to Minneapolis. There were 166 people on board.
“We hadn't been in the sky for 25 minutes when we heard a sound like lightning or an explosion“, passenger Ruth Sorensen told the media.“We heard the engine stop and then flames shot out of it.“
The passenger added that her companions held hands and comforted each other, preparing for the worst. Because of the fire, the pilots declared a state of emergency and returned the plane to the airport, where the machine was met by fire trucks. The landing was successful.
“We slept on the airport floor from 3:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. to catch the next Sun Country flight home,“ Sorensen admitted.
