The administration of US President Donald Trump has ordered the burning of 500 tons of cookies intended for children in Afghanistan and Pakistan, The Atlantic reported.
„Nearly 500 tons of food aid – enough to feed about 1.5 million children for a week – will turn to ashes“, the publication writes, citing US government officials.
It is noted that the high-calorie cookies purchased during the Joe Biden administration were stored in a warehouse in Dubai and were intended to help children in situations where their families lost their homes as a result of a natural disaster or fled war.
However, the White House did not find time to order the delivery to those in need and now had to get rid of it due to the expired expiration date of the cookies.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the termination of the activities of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). He called the closure of the agency the end of the “era of officially legalized government inefficiency“.
