Two-time European club champions Porto have officially signed former Brazilian national team captain Thiago Silva, the Portuguese club announced.
The 41-year-old centre-back was last seen at Fluminense, and his transfer is also symbolic. Silva signed for Porto in 2004, but did not make a single appearance for the men's team before continuing his career elsewhere. In his rich club career, Thiago Silva achieved his greatest international success with Chelsea, where he played between 2020 and 2024. With the London club, he won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
The defender previously played for Paris Saint-Germain, Milan, as well as the Brazilian clubs Juventude and Fluminense. In early 2005, he was loaned to Dynamo Moscow, but did not play an official match due to health problems. In his club career, Silva is a one-time champion of Italy and a seven-time champion of France. With the Brazilian national team, he won the Copa America in 2019 and the Confederations Cup in 2013, and also has an Olympic silver medal from London 2012 and bronze from Beijing 2008.
