Nikola Tsolov finished tenth in qualifying for the Miami Formula 2 Grand Prix, which secured him pole position for Saturday's sprint due to the inverted grid rule. The Bulgarian driver of Campos Racing leads the general classification with 25 points — seven more than Rafael Camara and Laurens van Hoepen, BTA reports.
The weekend in Miami started difficult for Tsolov, after a technical problem ended his participation at the beginning of the only free practice. Despite the lack of real laps before qualifying, the Bulgarian performed strongly and even came out on top twice in the provisional classification.
At the end of the 30-minute session, Tsolov recorded a best lap of 1:40.265 minutes, which brought him tenth position. Thanks to the inverted grid, he will start from the first place in the sprint race, which begins on Saturday at 17:00 Bulgarian time. Next to him on the front row will be Laurens van Hoepen.
The fastest in qualifying was the Indian Kush Maini with a time of 1:39.888 minutes. Next to him on the front row for the main race on Sunday will be the Brazilian Rafael Camara.
