Mike Tyson assured that he "has no regrets" about stepping into the ring "for the last time" following his loss to Jake Paul on Friday night, after revealing he "almost died" in June.
The eight-round fight, which took place at AT&T Stadium in Texas, was won by American actor and influencer Jake Paul by unanimous decision. The 27-year-old Paul defeated the 58-year-old former heavyweight boxing champion 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73.
In June, the fight was rescheduled from its original date of July 20 to November 15 after Tyson fell ill. He was diagnosed with an exacerbation of the problem due to an ulcer.
The media revealed that he fell ill on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles in May and required medical attention.
In a social media post on Saturday, Tyson announced that he had "almost died" in June after eight blood transfusions, but insisted he was still "grateful" for the chance to fight "for the last time".
"It's one of those situations where you lost but actually won. I'm thankful for last night. I don't regret getting in the ring for the last time. In June I almost died. I had eight blood transfusions. "I lost half my blood and a lot of weight in the hospital and I had to fight to be healthy to fight, so I won," the American wrote.
"For my kids to see me stand up and finish eight rounds with a talented boxer half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboys stadium is an experience no man can ask for. Thank you!", he added.
Friday's meeting was Tyson's first in 19 years.
