Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic will be out of action for between three weeks and a month. This was revealed by manager Pep Guardiola, without specifying exactly what the injury was. "He will be absent for some time, maybe between three weeks and a month," Guardiola said, reports sportal.bg.
The 30-year-old footballer was injured during Croatia's match against Portugal in the League of Nations. He was replaced at the break. It is believed to be a muscle injury and Manchester City's doctors prefer to be cautious and will not rush the player back to the field.
Kovacic is expected to miss at least six upcoming matches for the "citizens". This means he will not play in the matches against Tottenham, Feyenoord, Liverpool, Nottingham, Crystal Palace and Juventus.
This is yet another problem for Guardiola, who was counting on Kovacic to take over for the permanently injured Rodri. That could prompt the manager to give youngster Nico O'Reilly, who is yet to make his Premier League debut but has been used in games in other competitions, a chance. His other options are to bring back one of Kevin de Bruyne, Jlkay Gundogan or Mateusz Nunes to play in a more defensive midfield role.
