Alpine skiing superstar Mikaela Shiffrin announced that she underwent emergency surgery on Thursday as a result of the fall she suffered in the World Cup race in Killington last month, BTA reports.
"I had a small unexpected surgical intervention on Thursday night because I wasn't feeling well", the American said on her Instagram account. She herself revealed that the surgery was in the abdominal area on the left side, and a small cavity that had been filled with an old hematoma had to be drained. The fall in Killington left Shiffrin with a serious abdominal injury and it is still unclear when she will be able to return to the slopes.
Earlier this season in Gurgl, Austria, the American recorded her 99th World Cup victory. Next on the list is Swede Ingemar Stenmark, who has 86 victories to his name, achieved at the end of the last century.
