Number 1 in the world tennis rankings Yannick Sinner (Italy) started with an express victory at the Grand Slam tournament "Wimbledon", BNR reported.

The leader in the scheme dealt with his compatriot Luca Nardi with 6:4, 6:3, 6:0 in less than two hours of play.

The match started evenly and Nardi put up resistance in the first set, with Sinner only managing to make a breakthrough in the tenth game and end the first set with 6:4.

Sinner broke his opponent's serve for 2:0 in the second game and achieved success with 6:3 in the second part.

This broke Nardi's resistance and he was unable to take even a game in the third set.

Sinner, a three-time Grand Slam champion who lost the final of The French Open champion, who is seeking his first Wimbledon title after reaching the semifinals last season, was beaten by Carlos Alcaraz in five sets.

“The first matches are never easy, so I am very happy with my performance,” said Sinner in his on-court interview.

The Italian will play Aleksandar Vukic of Australia in the second round.

Seventh-seeded Lorenzo Musetti of Italy was eliminated early after losing to Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili 2-6, 6-4, 5-7, 1-6.

Musetti reached the semifinals last year at Wimbledon, but struggled this year and surprisingly lost to the Georgian, who won his first Grand Slam title after reaching the third round at Wimbledon in 2022. It was the 33-year-old Basilashvili's first victory over a top-10 player in a Grand Slam tournament.

Serbian Hamad Medzhedovic, seeded 8th, was eliminated from the tournament after a 6-7(8), 1-3 loss to Austrian Sebastian Offner, who withdrew due to injury.

13th-seeded Tommy Paul of the United States advances after a three-set victory over wildcard Briton Johannes Mundy 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.
