Bulgarian boxer Semyon Boldyrev lost in the quarterfinals of the World Boxing Cup in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, BNR reported.

In the 85 kg category, the bronze medalist of the last World Youth Championship lost by unanimous decision to the European champion under 23 Teagan Stott from England.

Boldyrev started the fight timidly and in the first round the ring referee decided to count him to eight because of a hook from Stott, which hit his jaw. In the second round, the Bulgarian tried to start more actively, but again allowed Stott to easily overcome his defense. This time the fight was stopped twice due to count-outs, although in the second of them the Bulgarian staff claimed that it was a stumble that sent Boldyrev to the ground.

In the final three minutes Boldyrev was the better boxer and all the judges at ringside took this into account, but the result before that was such that there was no way Stott could not be declared the winner.

Later today Viktorio Iliev will also enter the ring in Astana. If he wins over Frenchman Hugo Gros, he will qualify for the quarterfinals in the 65 kg category.
