Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Teixeira da Silva will be buried on July 5, BNR reported.

The two died in a car accident in northern Spain in the early hours of Thursday morning.

According to the authoritative Portuguese publication "Record", the ceremony will take place at the cemetery in Gondomar, the town where both footballers grew up. It will start at 10:00 local time. The farewell to the players will be a day earlier - from 16:00 on July 4.

The bodies of the two victims of the accident have already been sent to Portugal in hearses, accompanied by their relatives.

It is known that Diogo Jota's wife, Rute, was also at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Zamora, where the remains were initially sent.

Meanwhile, Liverpool announced that the number 20 shirt at the club will be retired in honor of Diogo Jota. After the tragic death of the Portuguese, fans of the "red" have expressed their opinion that the number should be immortalized and that Jota should be its last owner.

"Number 20 will be rightfully immortalized for his contribution to Liverpool's title in the 2024/25 season – his 20th for the club. With his iconic strike in front of the "Kop" to seal victory in the Merseyside derby in April – the touching last goal of his life", the club's official statement reads.
