The leaders of nearly 60 Arab and Islamic countries called on countries around the world to stop selling arms to Israel and to review their diplomatic and economic ties with the Jewish state until it ends its war in Gaza, DPA reported.

Gathering in Doha for an emergency summit, the leaders condemned in their final declaration last week's Israeli attack targeting Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital. However, they did not announce any measures against the Jewish state.

The leaders called on countries around the world to "take all lawful and effective measures to stop Israel from continuing its aggression against the Palestinian people", including imposing sanctions and an arms embargo, according to the final declaration of the summit, which brought together the heads of state of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The 57 OIC member states should also join forces within the United Nations to freeze Israel's membership in the world body, the declaration said.

The participants condemned "the brutal Israeli aggression against Qatar and the continuation of Israeli aggressive practices, including crimes such as genocide, ethnic cleansing and starvation", as well as Jewish settlements and expansionist policies, saying they undermine any prospects for peace in the region.

Last week, Israeli warplanes attacked a residential area in the Qatari capital, targeting Hamas leaders. The strike killed six people, including a Qatari security officer, and wounded 18 others, but the Palestinian Islamist group said its top leadership survived.

The attack, which came during ongoing ceasefire and hostage-free talks between Israel and Hamas, drew criticism around the world and led to the convening of an emergency summit of Arab and Islamic leaders, DPA reported.

The leaders of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states also met on the sidelines of the summit. In a separate statement, they said Gulf leaders had ordered the GCC Joint Defense Council to hold an emergency meeting in Doha "to assess the defense capabilities of member states and the sources of the threat in light of the Israeli aggression" against Qatar.

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani described Israel's strike as a "treasonous aggression against a residential area that houses schools and diplomatic missions."

"The capital of my country was the target of aggression. Our citizens were surprised and the entire world was shocked by this dastardly terrorist act," he added.

The emir said the attack was carried out while Hamas leaders were in Doha have been considering a US proposal brokered by Qatar and Egypt, and accused Israel of using the war in Gaza for broader goals.

"Israel is a country that systematically acts to assassinate the leaders it negotiates with, while simultaneously attacking the mediating party where the negotiations are held," Al Thani said.

"Israel's war has become a war of extermination, aimed at making Gaza uninhabitable as a prelude to displacement," he added.

The emir of Qatar warned that Israel is also trying to destabilize Syria and Lebanon.

"(Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu dreams of turning the Arab region into an Israeli sphere of influence – "a dangerous illusion," he added.

The UN Human Rights Council in Geneva also plans to discuss Israel's strike during an emergency session tomorrow, DPA reported.

The debate, called at the request of Pakistan and Kuwait, will take place at 11:00 a.m. local time (12:00 p.m. Bulgarian time) as part of the council's current session, the secretariat announced today.

The request calls for a debate on "the recent military aggression committed by the State of Israel against the State of Qatar on September 9, 2025", the secretariat wrote on the social network "Ex".

The emergency debates allow parties to make statements and propose potential resolutions, DPA noted.
