The Romanian TV channel “Digi 24“ quoted a reaction from Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in connection with the statement by Romania's Prosecutor General Alex Florenza about Russia's interference in the 2024 presidential elections, BTA reports.
“No, it's not true. Let's remember how Washington accused Russia of interfering in the elections, of attempts at destabilization, etc. Then they themselves admitted that it was not so. The same applies to Romania“, Peskov commented to the Russian media RBK, quoted by “Digi 24“.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova also described the accusations against Moscow as unfounded and ridiculous.
Sorin Grindeanu, the interim leader of the Social Democratic Party, reacted on the social network Facebook, saying: “The Kremlin spokesman's response to the case of the Romanian Prosecutor General's Office is in the same spirit of manipulation and denial of obvious evidence regarding Russia's involvement in the attempt to change the outcome of the elections in Romania. Repeated denials do not change the reality recorded in official reports and documents of the criminal prosecution. Russian interference is documented. In Romania, the institutions are doing their job and will present the evidence to the judges.“
The reactions come after Romania's Prosecutor General Alex Florenza presented the results of the investigation into the annulment of the November 2024 presidential elections on Tuesday. He said the decision was influenced by a large-scale hybrid war organized by Russia, including cyberattacks on key institutions and an aggressive online campaign conducted through artificial intelligence.
