Trump signs executive order to dismantle left-wing terrorism - 1

US President Donald Trump said he will sign an executive order this week to dismantle "domestic terrorist networks", which he said are funded by left-wing groups to incite violence against conservatives, BTA reported.

"The relentless violence by terrorists from the radical left, following the murder of Charlie Kirk, must stop", the US leader wrote on the social network "Truth Social". "This week I will sign an executive order to dismantle these domestic terrorist networks."

Trump announced this on the same day that an armed attacker killed one and wounded two other detainees at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas. It is this structure that has become the spearhead of Trump's tough, sweeping crackdown on illegal immigration, which has been criticized by many Democrats and immigrant rights advocates.

The president and his entourage have repeatedly stated, without providing evidence, that the suspect in the murder of conservative activist Kirk two weeks ago is part of a larger, coordinated left-wing movement.

At the same time, the president has largely downplayed the violence of right-wing groups and insisted that political violence is only a problem for the left. But domestic terrorism experts say that political violence is a common occurrence for both sides of the spectrum, and historically, more attacks have been carried out by supporters of right-wing than left-wing ideology, Reuters notes.

Trump earlier said he had discussed with Attorney General Pam Bondi the possibility of prosecuting such organizations under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). The legislation was enacted to combat organized crime.

Democrats have warned that the government could use Kirk's killing as a pretext to crack down on political dissent.

On Monday, Trump signed another executive order designating "Antifa" a domestic terrorist organization. and threatened to investigate and prosecute anyone who supports the movement financially.

"Antifa" is "a decentralized, leaderless movement comprised of loosely connected groups, networks, and individuals", according to the Anti-Defamation League, an American human rights organization that monitors and documents acts of extremism.
