Polish services have opened the border with Belarus and started allowing vehicles to enter their territory, the BelTA news agency reported.
The agency distributed photos and videos showing vehicles crossing the border at the Brest checkpoint and heading towards Poland.
On Wednesday morning, the State Border Committee of Belarus announced that it had received an official notification from the Polish border guards about the opening of the border on September 25 at 1:00 a.m. local time.
The State Customs Committee of Belarus has increased operations at checkpoints on the border with Poland following Warsaw's decision to reopen border crossings. The agency explained that the Belarusian side will begin customs clearance of outbound vehicles at road checkpoints well in advance, starting at 23:00, to ensure their rapid departure after the official opening of traffic from the Polish side. This also applies to trains.
Poland closed all previously operating border crossings with Belarus on the night of September 11-12. In addition to the passenger crossing in Terespol, traffic across the Polish-Belarusian border was suspended at the Kukuriki-Kozlovichi freight checkpoint, as well as at three railway crossings: Kuznitsa Belostotskaya-Grodno, Semyanovka-Svisloch and Terespol-Brest.
The decision was made on September 9 by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who linked the measure to the Belarusian-Russian military exercises “Zapad-2025“, which took place from September 12 to 16.
